Is it just me or has the politics of morality gotten so crazy that some people are willing to ignore other moral issues just to talk and play with one moral issue, LUST and sex.
Lust is considered one of the seven deadly sins and if you listen to some folks it is the only sin to worry about. Not everyday lust mind you, the lust of one particular part of American society, American citizens who are gay, homosexual lust is killing our country, ruining the military and marriage and some are now suggesting the economy.
If only we could go back to that special, less lustful time, when we hid the idea that there were homosexuals having sex we would all get along just peachy. If you didn't think about it, it didn't happen I guess.
The funny thing is that lust is just one of those deadly sins preached about and it is not considered one of the real 'biggies' in the sin catagory. So let's first look at the Seven Deadly Sins and see which sins are being ignored in the political morilizers tent.
Gluttony- the over indugence and over consumption to the point of waste. The virtue is temperance.
Greed- a very excessive or rapacious desire for the pursuit of weath, status and power. The virtue is charity.
Sloth- laziness or indifference. The virtue is diligence.
Wrath- an inordinate and uncontrolled feeling of hatred and anger. The virtue is patience.
Envy- Dante describes this sin as "A desire to deprive other men of theirs." The virtue is kindness.
Pride- A desire to be more important than others, failing to aknowledge the good works of others and excessive self love. The virtue is humility.
and finally thier biggest worry, LUST- the excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. The virtue is chastity.
Now if you think about it, the excessive 'thoughts and desires' are important here.
Which group is really excessive about the subject of sex? Are gay folks just over sexed and need to be controlled for the good of the country? That seems to be the prevailing thoughts behind the fundamentalist craze to make the sin of 'gay' sex their number one priority when it comes to laws and governing. Do not accept gay sex and things will be better. TA DAAAAA, no more problems, social, moral or economic.
I guess the other six big sins have to wait till they defeat this one sin of a small group of citizens who want to ruin it for the rest of us by having sex. It sounds excessive to me.
It seems to me that if these political moralizers started concentrating on the six other sins instead of their rather excessive thoughts on one group of citizen's lustful nature, we could alleviate many of the probelms we face today. But DOMA and DADT seem to be all they want to talk about. Sex, sex and sex, the only political and moral issue they keep drumming away at shows a real lack of temperance, kindness, patience, humility, diligence and charity.
The politics of morality is just plain crazy to me. It has become excessive on one issue, SEX!!!
Practice and preach all of them in your politics of morality or just shut up already you sex maniacs.
