If we look at American history we can see that through the years laws have been created to keep citizens safer from many things. food safety laws, work safety laws, driving regulations and even gun regulations and laws. we have even created laws to protect children from their own parents and we even have laws to protect us from the government and from the power of the police force.
Even with all of these laws and regulations there is no promise of total safety for any citizen. And even if we were to create newer laws that totality of safety will never be met.
Right now anyone can go on the internet and learn how to make a bomb. So many of us can be in danger of being killed by an idiot who wants to bomb any public or private building. Should we now create a law to stop dangerous information from getting into the wrong hands? Once we do that we must look at all information that may cause any death and destruction. Oh that can't happen you might say but how can you promise anyone that this could or would not happen?
Guns kill folks say and yes that is the ultimate purpose of guns. They are used for offense and defense.
Many of my neighbors do their own butchering and they use a gun to put down the animal swiftly and safely. it is important to do it quickly so the animal can be raised up to bleed out quickly or the quality of the meat changes. Many of us have guns to protect our livestock from predators and varmints. And many of us are so far away from police protection that we do have them for protection from criminal elements who would do harm to us out here in the boondocks. Does that make us really safe at all times? No it does not.
Many people in the city have guns because of the crimes committed daily in their neighborhoods. Even with all the police protection, laws and regulations they do not feel totally safe in their own homes.
To some it is about the type of gun but really, if all guns kill then it doesn't matter what type of gun is used to kill, all guns kill. So in order for us to protect everyone from guns we would need to ban and confiscate all guns.
Even with more regulations and laws for guns you will never have total safety, even in your own homes.
In America we do try to balance everything and we do try to make sure that we still keep our freedoms. This equation is never simple and we have been arguing both sides of the equation since our country was created.
sometimes it really sucks to be a free and open society because you can't always get what you want. No one is ever truly safe from harm in a free and open society. No one is even safe in a country that has laws to protect them from many dangers. And no country will ever create enough laws to keep everyone safe at all times.
