For some time now I have seen this meme that both candidates, Clinton and Trump, are unqualified for the Office of President. I have to point out that this idea is incorrect. Clinton, Johnson, Stein and Trump all meet the very simple qualifications for president, as stated in Article 2, Section 1, of the United States Constitution.
I find it very interesting that the signers of this great document kept it so simple. because of this simplicity, we all get to define what qualities we want in our President, they, in the wisdom of the day, saw fit to keep us future citizens, as the ultimate deciders of what a president should be. we can't bitch about that, can we?
So, it is not the qualifications we need to look at, it is the qualities that each candidate will bring with them to the Oval Office.
And these qualities may be objective or subjective, it doesn't matter, because we each choose them, and then vote for those qualities.
Now, the Media has spent an enormous amount of time playing up the candidate's negatives, they seem to think that is their only real job during an election now, which is very sad. And we all get caught up in that mish mash of this media driven pettiness, so I thought we could create a discussion on the positive qualities we seek when we choose a president.
Now, I ask only two things here as we talk, if you must mention a candidate in your comment, please just use their given name, no childish name calling. The second thing is that you respect all other Newsviners, who wish to discuss the qualities they look for in a presidential candidate.
Here are just a few qualities I look for to get us started.
I look for a person who has a well rounded knowledge of current affairs around the world, it does not have to have a lot of depth, just a basic understanding to work from and to build on later.
A presidential candidate should have an inner strength that can stand up to adversity, and a temperament that shows a responsible will to do their best when times are troubled.
A good candidate for President should be open to other thoughts, ideas and opinions, and to seek help and assistance from any avenue when it is needed.
And this last one might seem odd, but, I think a President must have a healthy sense of humor and be able to laugh at themselves once in a while.
Disagreement is inevitable here, those old bastards in the powdered wigs made it that way for a reason. SO agree, disagree, obfuscate, conjugate, probate and sublimate as much as you want, just have something interesting to discuss and we all might just learn some things today.
